In his first official visit to Cabo Verde, the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was received by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rui Figueiredo. This significant visit highlights the strong bilateral and historical ties between the United States and Cabo Verde.
The Secretary of State emphasized how the United States has accelerated the USA-Africa partnership since the USA-Africa Leaders Summit in areas such as climate, food security, and health. He also underscored the economic partnership with a focus on the future and how the United States is investing in infrastructure in Africa to boost bilateral trade, create jobs nationally and continentally, thereby helping Africa compete in the global market.
In addition to Cabo Verde, Secretary of State Blinken will travel to Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and Angola.
