Superior Council of the Judicial Magistrate
December 18, 2023
Minister of Justice
Attorney General of the Republic
President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary
Ladies and Gentlemen
It is a pleasure to take part in today’s ceremony to transfer equipment and other material valued at nearly $220,000 to support the vital work of your agencies and help strengthen the justice sector and rule of law in Cabo Verde.
Included in today’s delivery are seventy-three (73) computers and forty-four (44) UPS units aimed at improving court processing times through the Justice Information System, an initiative that recognizes the importance of a timely legal process to providing justice and maintaining public trust in the court system. Additionally, we are providing four hundred and twenty (420) fire-retardant mattresses in support of Cabo Verde’s efforts to ensure its prisons meet internationally accepted minimum standards.
The United States government recognizes the importance of having resilient and well-positioned partners in addressing regional security threats and sustaining a stable international system, and we are proud that we count Cabo Verde as such a partner. Cabo Verde’s commitment to democratic governance, rule of law, and human rights is inspiring and a role model, not just in Africa, but for all the world. The U.S. Embassy in Praia looks forward to continuing our strong collaboration with Cabo Verde’s justice sector as we work together to make the region a safer, more secure place.
