Deputy Chief of Mission Amanda Porter

Amanda Porter grew up in Walla Walla, Washington, where she learned to go fishing with her dad and developed a passion for public service.

Before joining the U.S. Embassy in Praia as Deputy Chief of Mission in June 2019, Amanda served at the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute where she redesigned negotiation training curriculum and led courses on counterterrorism and multilateral diplomacy.  In Washington, she also served in the Bureau of Human Resources and in the Bureau of African Affairs, where she covered Nigeria policy. Overseas, Amanda has served at U.S. Embassies in Montevideo, Dakar, Harare, and Bogota where she served as a Political and Economic Officer and as a Consular Officer.
